Welcome to the Capacity Building Certificate Program

Strengthening Leadership in Canada’s Environmental Non-Profit Sector

The Capacity Building Certificate Program (CBCP) is a flagship training initiative originally offered by the Capacity Building Institute. This six-month professional development program is designed for senior staff and key volunteers of small and mid-sized environmental non-profit organizations across Canada.

With a blend of expert-led workshops, one-on-one coaching, and peer engagement, CBCP builds capacity across six critical areas of non-profit management, equipping you to lead confidently and sustain impact.

Empowering Environmental Leaders

CBCP is built on the belief that strong organizations build a better planet. We know the challenges that environmental non-profits face: limited budgets, overextended staff, and the need to navigate legal, financial, and operational complexities while staying true to the mission. This program brings together like-minded change-makers from across Canada to learn, reflect, and grow.

“The CBCP gave me a bird’s eye view of what it takes to run an effective organization… I now feel equipped with foundational knowledge across the board.”
— Jacqueline Lee-Tam, Executive Director, Climate Justice Organizing Hub (2023)
“The training gave me fantastic insights into the many facets of running a small non-profit… and it was inspiring to meet so many like-minded peers.”
— Agnes Richard, Coordinator, Laudato Si’ Movement Canada (2022)
